Cabbage Poriyal

Cabbage Poriyal, this is a common and simple dish which is easy to make in the mornings for packing lunch box. As you all know cabbage is one of the common vegetable which is easily available in markets in all seasons. This poriyal can be taken as accompaniment for rice as well as chapati /  roti. This will be little different than regular poriyals because adding moong dal will give a unique taste and flavor. As both cabbage and moong dal are good for health, I usually make this poriyal often at my home. Do try this recipe when you buy cabbage next time, you will definitely like it.

Cabbage Poriyal

Preparation Time : 10 Minutes | Cooking Time : 15 Minutes | Serves : 4

Cabbage - 1/2 Kg
Moong Dal - 1 tbsp
Onion - 2 No.
Green Chili - 2 No.
Curry Leaves - 2 sprigs
Grated Coconut - 2 to 3 tbsp
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad Dal - 1/2 tsp
Oil - 1 tbsp
Salt to taste
1. Keep all the ingredients ready for making cabbage poriyal.
a. Soak moong dal in water for minimum 15 minutes.
b. Chop the cabbage, onions and green chilies.
2. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds splutter, add the urad dal and fry for few seconds. Add the chopped onions, green chilies and curry leaves.
3. Saute the onions till transparent. Add salt and toss well. Add chopped cabbage and mix it well.
4. Sprinkle some water and cook the cabbage till it is half done. Now, add the soaked moong dal.
5. Mix the moong dal with cabbage and add required water and cook till the cabbage is fully cooked.
6. Once the cabbage is cooked, add the grated coconut and mix well. Switch off the flame.

Easy and Simple Cabbage Poriyal is ready to serve.
