Bottle Gourd Tawa Fry

Bottle Gourd Tawa Fry, this is a different yet simple dish that can be made using bottle gourd(surakkai in tamil). I usually prepare kootu using this vegetable but I felt boring on doing the same dish each time  we buy it. So decided to try something different and here is the dish. Initially I was little doubtful whether this will work out for frying or not as this vegetable contains lot of water. But it came out really well. The only drawback is you have to serve it hot as the vegetable will not stay crispy for long time and it will become soft.

Ingredients:
Tender Bottle Gourd - 1 No.
Red Chili Powder - 1 tsp.
Coriander Powder - 1 tsp.
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp.
Cumin Powder - 1/2 tsp.
Garam Masala - 1/2 tsp
Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tsp.
Rice Flour - 2 tbsp.
Corn Flour - 1 tbsp.
Salt to taste
Oil for roasting.

Method:
1. Peel and clean the bottle gourd. Slice it into circles of medium thickness. Take a mixing bowl and add all the items mentioned under ingredient section except oil, bottle gourd and corn flour.
2. Add little water and mix it to make a thick paste. Add the corn flour and mix well. Drop the bottle gourd slices into the masala and mix well to coat the bottle gourd with masala. Allow this marinate for half an hour.
3. Grease oil on a tawa and place the bottle gourd pieces one by one on the tawa. Once it is cooked on one side, flip to other side and cook it.
4. Fry till the bottle gourd is roasted on both sides and you get a nice brown color. Once done, transfer it to a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
Bottle Gourd tawa fry is ready. Serve it hot as a snack or as an accompaniment with any variety rice dishes.

Note:
Bottle gourd that you choose for frying should be tender. i.e, it should not have thick seeds in the middle when you slice it.

  1. Another great Vermi product cooking oil bottle . I love the precise labels for mixing olive oil and vinegar, I wasn't sure I was getting the right amount, you just pump to blend With the drip less pour spout there are no more messy spills. Great for portion control on my salads. Easy to use and clean….
