Whole Green Gram Curry

Whole Green Gram Curry, a simple dish that can be made as a side dish for rice or chapati. This dish will not be very spicy, so you can give it your babies too. But, don't forget to reserve a cup of curry for your baby before tempering with red chilies. It will taste awesome if you add a spoon of coconut oil while having with rice. Whole Green Gram Curry


1. Whole green gram - 1 Cup.
2. Onion: 1 no.
3. Tomato: 2 nos.
4. Dry Red Chili - 3 Nos.
5. Shallots - 2-3 Nos.
6. Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp.
7. Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp.
8. Chili Powder - 1/4 tsp.
9. Asafotida - a pinch
10. Mustard - 1/4 tsp.
11 Curry leaves - 1 string
12. Salt to taste
13. Oil - 1 tsp.


1. Wash the green gram and drain the water.
2. Add the green gram to a pressure cooker.
3. Add cumin seeds, shallots, garlic cloves, turmeric powder and
asefotida to the pressure cooker.
4. Pressure cook the green gram for about 6 to 7 whistles.
5. Meanwhile, finely chop the onions and tomatoes.
6. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.
7. Once the mustard seeds splutter, add chopped onions, curry leaves
and dry red chilies.
8. Saute the onions till it turns transparent.
9. Add tomatoes and saute for few mins.
10. Now add turmeric powder, chili powder, salt and saute till the raw
smell goes and the tomatoes become soft.
11. Mash the cooked green gram and add it to the mixture.
12. Add enough water and adjust the salt. Cook on medium flame for
about 5 mins and switch off the flame.
