Raw Banana Roast / Vazhakkai Varuval

Raw Banana Roast / Vazhakkai Varuval, this is a simple and easy dish to make. The Taste was simply superb. I tried this for the first time, it came out really well and we all liked it very much. I made this dish just the way how we make fish fry. Instead of Fish use Raw Banana ;)

Raw Banana / Vazhakkai - 1 No.
Garlic - 2 Cloves
Coconut - 2 tbsp.
Red Chili Powder - 1 tsp.
Coriander Powder - 1 tsp.
Cumin Powder - 1/2 tsp.
Garam Masala - 1/2 tsp.
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp.
Fennel Seeds - 1/2 tsp.
Asafoetida - a pinch
Oil - as needed
Salt to taste

1. Take a blender and add all the items mentioned under ingredients section except raw banana and oil. Grind it to a paste. Peel and slice the raw banana into your desired shape say, lengthwise or circle shape. Boil the sliced raw banana in salt water till it is half cooked.
2. Drain the water from banana and mix with the ground paste and set aside for 20 to 30 minutes.
3. Heat oil in a pan and start roasting the raw bananas. Flip it both sides and roast till it turns to golden brown color on both sides. Don't add lot of oil when you start frying. If required we can add while it is roasting.

Tasty Raw Banana Roast / Vazhakkai Varuval is ready to serve. This goes well with any rice.

  • Few people may feel gastric trouble on eating raw banana, adding garlic and asafoetida may reduce this problem.
  • If you do not like the smell of garlic, add one more pinch of asafoetida while making the paste.
